Getting super sparkling results from your steam cleaner should be an absolute breeze compared to traditional cleaning methods. Here we take a look at how you can achieve advert-worthy results with just five simple steps.

Five simple steps to using your steam cleaner effectively

No matter what you’re cleaning the steps are always the same when using your cleaner. They can, however, be added to if tackling tough stains (where you may use a mixture of white vinegar, or Castile soap in a spray bottle alongside your steam cleaner).

Please read these instructions in full before beginning your cleaning (it should take less than 30 seconds).

  1. You can steam clean with one of the two main settings, either cool or dry.
  2. Be sure to clear any debris first (such as a carpet, which should first be thoroughly vacuumed).
  3. Fit any specialist attachment required (such as a carpet glider attachment, nozzle for cleaning bathrooms and kitchen worktops or the squeegee for windows and glass).
  4. Ensure that the temperature setting is suitable and steam from the appropriate distance.
  5. Last but not least, you should always check out the manufacturer’s guidelines prior to applying your steam cleaner to any new material or surface, particularly when using specialist attachments.

What surfaces can a steam cleaner be used on?

There are really very few surfaces that steam cleaners can’t clean, and they are powerful enough to eradicate everything from dust mites right through to mould and a range of fungi. However we thought the following explicit list of steam cleanable items would be handy for those who are uncertain.

As a general rule all of the below should be fine

  • Upholstery, Curtains, Mattresses, Rugs and Carpets
  • Glass and Mirrors
  • Floors, Tiles and Metal Fixtures
  • Hard floors

Don’t forget though to always double-check the manufacturer’s instructions just in case your model has any specific requirements or exclusions.
